In a metroplex as big as Dallas-Fort Worth, finding neighborhoods that go all-out for Halloween can be a challenge. After all, over eight million people are living in North Texas; not every community can be a stomping ground for all things ghosts and goblins. So we asked our friends, scoured the internet, and used our own insider knowledge to share some of the coolest places to take the kids to trick-or-treat on Halloween night. These are the top spots for the spookiest Halloween decor, the best community vibe, and of course, lots of candy.

Things to Remember Before Heading Out to Trick-or-Treat in DFW

Wherever you plan to trick-or-treat on Halloween night, be wary of cars and make sure your kids (or you) carry a flashlight. More importantly, if you’re visiting a neighborhood that isn’t your own, be extra careful not to leave candy wrappers and other litter behind. The neighborhoods below show tremendous generosity each Halloween; we don’t want them to wake up to their lawns looking like Globe Life Field after a playoff game! 

Best Trick-or-Treat Neighborhoods in and Around Dallas

Swiss Avenue Historic District – Dallas

This neighborhood in the heart of Dallas is truly king when it comes to trick-or-treating in DFW. Stately homes decked out in lights, sounds, and over-the-top Halloween decor, residents handing out plenty of candy, and thousands of kids in costumes. Beware, upwards of 4,000 people come to trick-or-treat here, so be prepared for crowds. Free parking is available on Swiss and Bryant streets, as well as on Bryant Parkway.

Deerfield – Plano

Famous for its Christmas lights and displays, it’s no surprise this Plano neighborhood gets in on the Halloween action. See the skeleton bride and groom, a giant werewolf, and the three witches from Macbeth all in one yard!

Canterbury Court – Plano

Although the folks who used to display a giant King Kong have moved on, last year, Halloween decor on this festive street included an animal skeleton petting zoo, a giant (and scary) walk-through clown inflatable, a drive-in for the dead, and much more. They block off the street to make it safe for trick-or-treaters, and you can park at the nearby school and walk over!

Tucker Hill – McKinney

This community west of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center is filled with gorgeous homes, some stately brick and some classic wood, and most of them with charming front porches. You’ll find more decor on the more sophisticated than scary side here, but front porch parties and candy abound, making it a perfect spot for trick-or-treating with families

Panther Creek Estates – Frisco

This neighborhood is a go-to for Frisco families. There is a lot of over-the-top Halloween decor, sidewalks that make trick-or-treating safe, and plenty of folks hanging in driveways handing out candy.

Ryan Place – Fort Worth

This historic Southside neighborhood goes all out for Halloween. Homes range from Georgian brick to Mediterranean stucco, and the spooky decor is next level. Be prepared for larger-than-life Dios de los Muertos lawn displays, super spooky clowns, 8-foot skeletons illuminated by lights, and lots and lots of candy. This spot is so popular that the Fort Worth Police Department provides car and bike patrols.

Fairmount – Fort Worth

This is another historic district that goes all out for Halloween. South of Myrtle is where it’s the busiest, and the neighborhood association creates a “scaremount map” displaying the best decorated homes in the hood.
