Road work and closures for certain Lubbock roads set for Monday, Jan. 12

  • January 9, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The City of Lubbock says, starting Monday, January 12, 2026, workers will begin construction of a new sanitary sewer main on East 8th Street, from Oak Avenue to Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Detours will be marked to help drivers navigate around the construction zone. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes, if possible.

The work is scheduled to be completed on February 9, 2026, weather permitting.

The city also says on Monday, workers will close the northbound curb lane on Quaker Avenue approaching 24th Street, and a portion of the south side of 24th Street east of Quaker Avenue, for utility work.

That work is scheduled to be completed by January 18, weather permitting.

The City urges motorists to use an alternate route if possible, eliminate distractions, and plan for extra travel time when driving through the area.
