Community blood drive in Calallen aims to collect 200 donations to replenish the post-holiday blood supply.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Community members rolled up their sleeves in Calallen as the Coastal Bend Blood Center (CBBC) kicked off its 2026 “Find a Hero in You” blood drive, aiming to collect more than 200 donations to help replenish supplies after the holiday season.

The multi-day effort is taking place today at Walmart in Calallen located at 3829 US-77 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The blood drive continues on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Cavender’s Boot City located at 4914 S Padre Island Dr #105 in Calallen, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re starting 2026 strong with our annual Find a Hero in You blood drive,” said Ashley Ramirez, community relations and media spokesperson for the CBBC. “We know we can reach our goal because our community always shows up when we need it.”

Ramirez emphasized the ongoing need for donors, especially after the holidays. “The need for blood is constant. It never declines,” she said. “It only takes about 25 minutes to donate whole blood, and you can save up to five lives.”

To encourage participation, donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt, Outback Steakhouse coupons, and entries into prize drawings.

“It’s all about coming together as a community and saving as many lives as possible,” Ramirez added.
