AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police Department detectives are seeking assistance from the community to locate a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian early Monday morning. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Donna Michelle Hanson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred on January 5, 2026, at approximately 2:02 a.m. in the 900 block of E Koenig Lane, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department. The suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored 1998-2000 BMW 323, fled the scene, leaving behind several car parts. Witnesses reported the vehicle traveling eastbound on Koenig Lane and noted possible collision damage to the left side, with the left headlight or signal light potentially broken or taped.
This crash marks Austin’s third fatal crash of 2026, resulting in three fatalities, the department stated. On the same date in 2025, no fatal crashes were reported.
