Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham is calling on residents to send Valentine’s Day cards to veterans in state facilities.
The annual campaign aims to deliver messages of appreciation to residents at Texas’s 10 State Veterans Homes. The initiative offers Texans a simple way to honor military service members during the February holiday.
Last year’s campaign delivered nearly 38,000 cards to veterans across the state.
“We are the land of the free because of the brave. This Valentine’s Day, I encourage Texans to show appreciation for our Veterans by sending cards to our 10 Texas State Veterans Homes,” Buckingham said in a press release.
“Anyone can send a card through the VLB’s Valentines for Vets campaign, including schoolchildren, co-workers, families, and friends. Each Valentine sent will remind our heroes that their courageous sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
The Veterans Land Board provides downloadable card designs for participants. Cards must be postmarked by February 10, 2026, to ensure timely delivery.
Participants should include “Valentines for Vets” in the mailing address when sending cards. The facilities span from Amarillo to McAllen, including locations in Houston, Fort Worth, and El Paso.
The state’s newest facility, Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth, opened its doors last fall. The home joins nine other facilities providing specialized care for Texas veterans.
Mailing addresses for all ten locations can be found here.
Buckingham, who became Texas’s first female Land Commissioner in 2022, oversees veteran services as chairwoman of the Veterans Land Board. The board manages state veterans homes and provides loans to qualifying service members.
Schools, community groups, and individuals have participated in previous Valentine campaigns. The effort represents one of several Veterans Land Board programs designed to support former military personnel throughout Texas.
