COLLEGE STATION — Saturday, Texas A&M men’s basketball welcomes Oklahoma to Reed Arena, aiming to capture its first 3-0 start in SEC play since the 2022-2023 season.
That year, the Aggies started 5-0, finished conference play 15-3 and ended the season 17th in the AP Poll.
Unranked A&M (12-3, 2-0) earned its first two SEC victories by a combined four points, showcasing its ability to win close games at home (vs. LSU) and on the road (at Auburn). The Sooners (11-4, 1-1) present another challenge, coming to College Station after a 72-53 loss Wednesday to Mississippi State.
The Aggies enter Saturday’s matchup second in the conference in scoring (94.4) and 3-point percentage (38%). Defensively, it’s been more of a struggle for A&M, as it’s 14th in scoring defense, allowing 77.5 points per game, and 15th in opponents’ field goal percentage (44.4%).
Oklahoma is middle of the pack in both categories, sitting at ninth in both scoring offense (85.0) and scoring defense (72.2). It’s led by a pair of guards, Nijel Pack and Xzayvier Brown, who transferred to Norman this past season and are averaging 16.2 and 15.9 points, respectively.
