Senior heavyweight wrestler AJ Ferrari was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail on a fugitive from justice charge on Jan. 10.

The Nebraska State Patrol pulled over Ferrari for speeding on Friday, Jan 9. He was detained on an outstanding warrant issued last October for evading arrest in Allen, Texas, a northern suburb in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

A state patrol spokesperson said troopers saw a Toyota pickup speeding at 90 mph on eastbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 414, just east of Waverly. During the stop, the trooper discovered Ferrari had an outstanding warrant.

“The Nebraska Athletic Department is aware of the arrest of AJ Ferrari on Friday night related to an outstanding warrant in Texas. We are awaiting more information from legal authorities involved and have no additional comment at this time,” Nebraska athletics said in a statement on Saturday.

He competed in the Huskers’ home dual, Friday, Jan. 9, against Purdue and defeated redshirt senior Hayden Filipovich, 4-0. This is Ferrari’s first season competing for Nebraska.

Ferrari was dismissed from Oklahoma State’s wrestling team in August 2022 after being accused of sexual battery. Those charges were dropped a year later at the request of Payne County District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas, pointing to “vicious attacks” and “harassment” directed at the victim, which Ferrari’s attorneys dispute.

This is a developing story.
