Texas A&M wears down Oklahoma for third conference win

  • January 11, 2026

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – An Oklahoma men’s basketball squad that entered Reed Arena Saturday hitting 34.6% of its shots seemed ready to make the Southeastern Conference matchup a 3-point shooting contest.

However, as time wound down, Oklahoma’s shots from distance began missing short. The Sooner’s ultimately went 0 for its last 10 from behind the arc, aiding in Texas A&M’s 83-76 victory and sending the Aggies to 3-0 in the conference slate.

Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser attributed his team’s late shooting woes to the grind Bucky McMillan’s Aggies put on the Sooners with their full-court defense and physical play.

“When they’re short, that is fatigue,” Moser said of his team’s shooting down the stretch. “And I thought [A&M] played deeper. I thought their bench was deeper than ours, and I thought that just kind of wore out and played out.”

Oklahoma (11-5, 1-1) finished the game shooting 35% from 3-point range, ahead of A&M’s 30%. However, the Aggies (13-3, 3-0) were able to force 17 Oklahoma turnovers, which led to 18 points.

Here is the game rundown:

Why did A&M win?

Beyond A&M’s ability to push the pace of the game, forward Rashaun Agee and guard Ruben Dominguez have become a serious threat in the two-man game.

Dominguez’s lethal accuracy from behind the arc and quick release force the attention of the defense. On the flip side, Agee’s strength in the post pushes defenses to make a choice.

“I thought they were physical, that’s my takeaway,” Moser said. “Agee, I thought, was the difference in the game.”

The ending of the game was a perfect example.

With three minutes to play, and A&M holding a five-point lead, McMillan said the team was looking to get Dominguez a shot to ice the game. They worked the ball inside to Agee, drawing a double team from the Oklahoma defense. After bringing the extra defender to help, Agee whipped a pass to Dominguez in the corner for an open 3-point look that hit.

It was his fourth hit in nine tries from behind the arc and would ultimately be the game-winning score for A&M.

However, the Aggies added insurance on the opposite side of the coin. With 30 seconds remaining, Oklahoma left Agee in single coverage in the post. The 6-foot-8, 231-pound post backed down his defender and worked a layup that put the Aggies back up by five.

“If me and Ruben see something and we make eye contact, it’s going to happen,” Agee said. “It’s just natural. I feel like, sometimes, playing with Ruben, I feel like I’ve played with him before.”

Defensively, the Aggies held Oklahoma to a 4-for-21 clip from the field in the final 13 minutes of the game.

“Early in the year, I thought that we weren’t in the shape we needed to be in to persevere late in games, and I feel that you don’t see weakness in our team late in the game,” McMillan said of his team’s performances as of late.

Who stood out?

Agee finished with a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds, marking his seventh double-double of the season.

Dominguez posted 14, along with Rylan Griffen. Griffen hit 3 of 6 from behind the arc. Guard Pop Isaacs finished with 13 and Marcus Hill had 10.

Oklahoma’s Nijel Pack went 6-for-13 from 3-point range for a game-high 24 points. The Sooners had three scorers with double-digit points.

What was an important stat?

The Aggies tied for their second-best performance from the free-throw line Saturday, hitting 84% of 25 attempts in the game.

What was a key play?

Midway through the first half, Dominguez hit back-to-back 3-pointers that pulled momentum back in favor of the Aggies after Oklahoma took a one-point lead.

Dominguez ranks first in the SEC in 3-pointers made with 53 and is 16th nationally.

What does this mean moving forward?

After the conclusion of Saturday’s game, the Aggies sat atop the SEC standings at 3-0 in conference play as one of six teams without a loss in conference play. A&M’s six-game win streak is tied for second in the conference.

What’s next?

The Aggies travel to Tennessee to take on the No. 21-ranked Volunteers (11-5, 1-2) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Tennessee dropped its contest on Saturday to Florida, 91-67.
