1st Quarter

Kentucky got the game’s first possession and the Cats were able to move the ball on the stout Texas defense. Boley completed four of his first five passes as UK marched into UT territory. The Cats got into the red zone but on a fourth-and-one from the Texas 16 yard line, Dante Dowdell was stopped short of the line to gain and the Longhorns took over with 9:21 left in the first quarter.

Texas would get one first down on its first possession, but the Longhorns punted the ball back to the Cats, who took over at their own 32 yard line with 7:10 left in the period. However, Kentucky went three-and-out and punted it back to Texas, which took over at its own 13 with 6:13 remaining in the quarter.

The Longhorns made a pair of first downs on their next drive, but were unable to cross midfield before having to punt it back to the Cats, who took over at their own 19 yard line with 3:45 to play in the quarter. The game would be scoreless after one period.

2nd Quarter

As the second quarter got underway, the Cats were able to cross midfield but would be forced to punt again. Texas would take over at its own 20 with 12:39 left in the half.

Texas would drive into UK territory on its next possession, but again the Longhorns would be forced to punt. Kentucky took over on its own nine yard line with 9:04 left in the half.

The Cats went three-and-out and punted it back to Texas. The Longhorns got a 45-yard punt return from Ryan Niblett at UT took over at the UK five yard line. Three plays later, Texas got on the board when Quentrevion Wisner scored on a one-yard rush. Mason Shipley added the point after and the Longhorns led 7-0 with 6:22 left in the half.

Kentucky would make a pair of first downs on its next drive before a Boley pass was intercepted by Texas’ Trey Moore at the UK 49. The Longhorns were unable to turn the good field position into points, and punted it back to the Cats, who took over at their own 10 yard line with 1:07 left in the half.

The Cats attempted to make the most of the final possession of the half. Boley connected on three passes in a row to get Kentucky across midfield with 23 seconds left in the half. With 13 seconds to play, Jacob Kauwe attempted a 53-yard field goal, but it missed left. Texas would take a knee and would take a 7-0 lead into the half.

3rd Quarter

Texas took the ball to start the second half but the UK defense forced a three-and-out and a subsequent punt. The Cats took over at their own 19 yard line.

Kentucky put together a solid drive, using both the air and ground attack to cover 53 yards in 15 plays. Kauwe converted a 46-yard field goal to cut the Texas lead to 7-3 with 4:09 left in the third quarter.

Texas would respond with a scoring drive of its own. The Longhorns went 40 yards in six plays, ending with a 53-yard field goal by Shipley, making it 10-3 Texas with 2:05 left in the half.

Kentucky went three-and-out and punted it back to Texas with just 32 seconds left in the third quarter. The Longhorns would lead 10-3 after three periods.

4th Quarter

The first play of the fourth quarter was a Texas punt that UK’s Ty Bryant returned to the UK 44 yard line. The Cats would respond with a Boley pass to Josh Kattus for 11 yards and an 11-yard rush from Jason Patterson. A pass interference penalty got UK into the red zone and then Boley scrambled for a 16-yard touchdown. Kauwe added the PAT and the game was tied 10-10 with 12:04 left in the game.

The UK defense forced another three-and-out on the next Texas possession. The Longhorns punted and UK took over at its own 14 with 10:47 to play. Kentucky would make one first down before punting it back to Texas, which took over at its own 24 yard line. UK returned the favor and punted it back to the Longhorns, who got another big return from Niblitt, who took it to the UK 42 with 2:36 left.

Texas got one first down and got to the UK 21 yard line before the Cats’ defense stopped the drive. Shipley came on and made a 39-yard field goal to give the Longhorns a 13-10 lead.

Kentucky was not done. The Cats got the ball back with 51 seconds remaining and navigated down the field, covering 46 yards in seven plays. With nine seconds remaining, Kauwe made a 45-yard field goal to tie the game at 13-13. Texas would take a knee on their next possession and the game would go to overtime.

Overtime

On the first play of overtime, Boley connected with Kendrick Law for a 22-yard completion, getting the Cats to the three. However, UK ran four and did not get in, and Texas got their opportunity.
