Alabama’s bad Sunday after losing Cam Coleman to the Texas Longhorns got worse, with Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports reporting that Alabama transfer portal running back commit Hollywood Smothers has flipped his commitment from Alabama to Texas.
Â

Â
Smothers originally committed to the Crimson Tide on January 5 after a quick visit with the Crimson Tide. According to sources, he had already enrolled in classes at Alabama and was set to move to Tuscaloosa this weekend. The North Carolina native then decided to take a visit to Austin, Texas, and visit the Longhorns, where Steve Sarkisian locked down the NC State transfer. Smother had totaled 1,128 total yards and seven touchdowns this season for the Wolfpack.
Â
The Tide’s running back room isn’t bare, but it’s inexperienced, with sophomore Daniel Hill, redshirt freshman Kevin Riley, and freshman AK Dear returning from a season ago, and signing Jackson High School’s Ezavier Crowell.
Â
Â
Alabama still has eight transfer portal commitments despite losing Smothers to the Longhorns:
Â
Josh Ford, TE (Oklahoma State)
Caleb Woodson, LB (Virginia Tech)
Kaden Strayhorn, OL (Michigan)
Devan Thompkins, DL (USC)
Ethan Stangle, Long Snapper (Syracuse)
Adam Watford, P (North Alabama)
Jaxon Shuttlesworth, TE (Jacksonville State)
Carmelo O’Neal, DB (Mercer)
Â
Â
The transfer portal officially opened on Friday, January 2, and will remain open until January 16.
