LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock County is scheduled to take more steps into a new era of the medical examiner’s office.
Commissioners are expected to consider terminating a lease agreement with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for the medical examiner building it has used for many years on the South Loop.
According to the agenda, Lubbock County will leave that facility next month.
County information shows its most recent lease extension cost the county $250,000 last year.
“We want to provide peace for the families of the deceased and that’s what this is going to help us do,” said Charles Addington, Lubbock County medical examiner. “We are still gonna have some people who die everyday, but if it is handled better and more professionally than it is right now than that’s even better.”
The commissioners court meets at 10 a.m. Monday.
