Michigan football has secured a commitment from former Texas wide receiver Jaime Ffrench.Ffrench, a freshman, will join second-year player Andrew Marsh to enhance the team’s passing game. The Wolverines are also recruiting former Utah tight end J.J. Buchanan to add more offensive talent.Ffrench was a highly-rated recruit known for his well-rounded skill set and body control.
Michigan football needs more talent at wide receiver, especially with Donaven McCulley graduating. And the Wolverines, with a new coaching staff led by Kyle Whittingham, were intent to get it.
Though there have been a few names bandied about who quarterback Bryce Underwood could throw to, it became clear in recent days that the primary target is freshman Jaime Ffrench, who had offers from every top program with a dynamic passing attack (including Ohio State and Alabama; though he ultimately chose Texas). Now with Jason Beck leading the charge at offensive coordinator, there’s more to sell in Ann Arbor, and Ffrench has been on campus since Saturday evening.
It turns out he’s seen what he’s needed to see, having committed to the maize and blue.
Ffrench originally hails from Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin (the same school as former Michigan commit Brody Jennings). With the Longhorns, he had one catch for six yards and played in four games. He’ll pair with fellow second-year player Andrew Marsh to create a more dynamic aerial attack.
Here’s the scouting report from On3 when he was a recruit:

Savvy receiver who offers scheme versatility and a well-rounded skill set. Measured at 6-foot-0 â…ž,, 184 pounds with 32-inch arms and 9.5-inch hands at the On3 Elite Series before his senior season. Lines up in the slot and out wide for his high school. Notched 62 catches for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdowns on a state finalist as a junior. Shows wiggle off the line of scrimmage. Adept at attacking the intermediate area of the field. Lethal on back shoulder fades. Has high level body control and can twist his body in air while high-pointing the ball. Shows flashes of high-end ball skills, making one-handed grabs in camps and 7-on-7’s. Tests as a solid athlete in the combine setting. Can improve initial burst and play speed. Will need to clean up drops as he can lose focus and catch with improper hand placement at times. Will need to make strides athletically and with consistency to be a true number one wideout long-term. Production saw a dip as a senior, finishing with just two touchdowns following an injury to his team’s quarterback. Has a translatable skill set with his ability to attack the intermediate area and should be considered a high floor prospect as a possession target.
Along with Marsh and Ffrench, Michigan has Travis Johnson coming in as a true freshman and second-year receiver Jamar Browder. And the Wolverines had a visit with former Utah tight end J.J. Buchanan, who has predictions that he will end up in Ann Arbor.
