SAFD: Downtown apartment complex damaged again by fire

A Fire Engine responds to the scene of an emergency.

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged a vacant apartment complex near downtown Monday night.

Crews were called to the Soap Factory Apartments on North Santa Rosa around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters got to work on the inside of the complex. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

Flames made it up to the third floor of the building, and SAFD reports this is the second time this month a fire has broken out at the same complex. No injuries were reported in the previous fire on January 8, and the cause of that fire is also under investigation.

The Soap Factory Apartments could be facing demolition as part of a plan to build a new ballpark for the San Antonio Missions. While the stadium would not fall directly into the stadium’s proposed footprint, surrounding development could force residents out of the complex in waves.
