SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio’s 39th Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration — touted as the largest MLK Jr. march in the nation — will feature three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas and Grammy-winning recording artist Coco Jones.

The march kicks off at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy on Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. and ends at Pittman-Sullivan Park, the route totaling about 2.75 miles. Lineup begins as early as 7:30 a.m.

Douglas will be the keynote speaker during a fireside chat with San Antonio City Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez from noon to 1:30 p.m. Jones will perform at 2 p.m. Both events are at Pittman-Sullivan Park and are free and open to the public.

The park celebration also includes a main stage with multicultural performances, a health and wellness area, youth area, food and merchandise vendors and information booths.

San Antonio’s VIA transportation service is providing free rides to the march from 8 to 10 a.m. from the following locations:

Alamodome – Lot C – located at the corner of Montana and S. Cherry streets
St. Philip’s College – Lots 21, 22 and 23, located along Montana Street and the intersections of S. Gevers and S. Mittman streets.

Buses will return passengers from Pittman-Sullivan Park to the original pick-up locations from noon to 3 p.m.
