A familiar face is reportedly joining Texas’ coaching staff for the 2026 season.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Blake Gideon is leaving Georgia Tech to join the Texas staff as a defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach. Gideon spent the 2025 season at Georgia Tech as the program’s defensive coordinator.

Gideon notably played safety at Texas from 2008-11. He started 52 games throughout his collegiate career, recording 234 total tackles, 10 interceptions, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

After playing for two seasons in the NFL, Gideon started his coaching career in 2014. He has coached at several schools, including Florida, Houston and Ole Miss. He worked under Will Muschamp at Florida as a defensive quality control coach throughout the 2014 season.

Gideon has coached at Texas in the past, working as the program’s safeties coach from 2021-24. He’s set to reunite with Muschamp, who was rehired as Texas’ defensive coordinator in December.
