First cold front of the week has moved through Wednesday morning

  • January 14, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A pair of cold fronts will bring gusty winds to the region but keeping temperatures relatively mild for mid-January.

The first cold front has already pushed through the region early Wednesday morning, and another front will arrive by Friday. While the fronts themselves won’t bring dramatically colder air, they will usher in noticeable wind increases.

Winds will pick up late Wednesday morning, with average northerly winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts near 40 mph expected throughout the day. The strongest gusts will potentially exceed 40 mph, and this will be most likely in areas off the Caprock. Secure any loose outdoor items.

Wednesday highs are expected to reach the 50s and low 60s across most areas under decreasing clouds. Overnight lows will settle around normal values, with temperatures in the 20s and 30s.

Following the passage of the first front, temperatures will bounce back above normal Thursday before the second cold front approaches Friday.
