State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, the Democratic frontrunner to challenge Gov. Greg Abbott in this fall’s election, will hold a San Antonio rally this Thursday to meet supporters and share her vision for the Lone Star State.

Hinojosa, who represents the Austin area, is coming off a tour where she visited nine Texas cities in one week, including Houston, San Antonio and variety of South Texas communities. Her Thursday event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Friendly Spot in Southtown, 943 S. Alamo St.

“I hear it over and over again — people everywhere are tired of working more and getting less,” Hinojosa said in a statement. “They’re tired of paying the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax and hungry for a campaign that has a plan to help families across the state to prosper.”

During San Antonio stop last Sunday as part of her weeklong tour, Hinojosa — a former Austin ISD school board trustee — emphasized her plans to fund public schools while also accusing Abbott of being the most corrupt governor in state history.

To back up her claim, Hinojosa cited a September study by watchdog group Public Citizen, which found that Abbott awarded nearly $1 billion in no-bid state contracts to donors to his political campaigns.

Hinojosa is one of 11 Democrats who will appear on the ballot in the March 3 primary in the governor’s race.
