EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Exiting Interstate 10 at Mesa Street in West El Paso is what is driving one viewer crazy this week.

This viewer contacted KFOX14, stating in part, ” When will I be able to exit I- 10 on Mesa Street? On my way to work, I have to either get off early or go down to Sunland Park and turn back up?

Drivers in West El Paso can expect relief as the eastbound exit on I-10 at Mesa Street is anticipated to be completed by the end of the month, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

A spokesperson confirmed that crews are finalizing work, including removing concrete barriers, placing riprap, installing guardrail fencing, and final striping. This project is part of phase one of the I-10 Widening West Project.

Lauren Macias Cervantes, TxDOT’s public information officer, advised drivers to be mindful of changes: “One thing that drivers do need to keep in mind that once this exit opens, it’s about a mile, a little more than a mile before the previous eastbound Mesa exit that they were used to. They need to be aware that they’ll be exiting a little bit earlier.”

Ahead of the reopening, a complete closure on I-10 from Redd to Mesa is scheduled for next weekend to finalize the three-lane configuration on this stretch.
