Buzz Adams, a longtime local radio personality in El Paso, was arrested over the weekend on multiple charges tied to a traffic stop, according to jail and court records cited by multiple media outlets.
Adams, whose real name is Michael Earl Witt, is host of the “Buzz Adams Morning Show” on Townsquare Media’s rock “The Q 95.5” KLAQ El Paso. He was taken into custody by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday (Jan. 10) and booked on several charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of marijuana (under two ounces), and possession of a controlled substance.
Adams posted bail and was released from custody on Sunday (Jan. 11), according to multiple reports. As of Thursday afternoon, he doesn’t have a publicly available court date. His defense attorney, Justin Underwood, told KVIA-TV he plans to speak about Adams’ response to the DWI charge live on the KLAQ morning show at 7:30am Friday.
“Buzz remains on the air and an employee of KLAQ while his personal legal matter is being handled and defended by his attorney,” Townsquare Media said Thursday in response to a request for comment from Inside Radio.
Details of the circumstances that resulted in Adams’ traffic stop and arrest have not been fully detailed by law enforcement. Specific details, including blood-alcohol test results and the specifics of the weapon and controlled substance allegations, haven’t been publicly disclosed.
Adams is a fixture in the region, with a show that’s highly regarded for its mix of music, banter, and local engagement. It has long endured as a staple of KLAQ’s programming and is syndicated to other Texas rock stations. The show’s broadcast area extends into New Mexico and across the Mexican border.
