Houston Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says a person was shot and killed by a deputy in east Harris County this afternoon, and an investigation is now underway.

The shooting was reported in the 15900 block of Ridlon, near Sheldon Road. Deputies received a call about a man who was impersonating an officer near a woman’s house but was not in a uniform. When police arrived, they asked for identification. According to police, he became nervous and erratic, before pulling a gun and firing at deputies.

Officers returned fire and hit the suspect. CPR was administered at the scene, but the man died. He was identified only as a 50-year-old man. An autopsy is being performed to determine if he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

No deputies were injured.
