There’s a new, dangerous online challenge that’s picking up steam called the “Door Kick Challenge.” The challenge involves, as the name suggests, walking up to a stranger’s door—often late at night—and kicking it.
This trend has already reached Houston, and authorities are warning everyone not to participate. Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen told our TV partner Channel 2 that it could have deadly consequences. “If kids actually kick, and actually go in the house, and someone was ready for them?” he said. “Or saw it on a camera, waiting for them to kick the door in, and then starts to shoot?”
Rosen also pointed out that kicking a door like that could cause homeowners to panic. “If somebody’s breaking into my home, I don’t know how I’m gonna respond,” he said. “Imagine somebody kicking your door in, and you’re hearing somebody break into your home.”
Rosen added that even pranks like ding-dong-ditching can—and have—led to violent incidents.
