Out of the 182 most populous cities in the U.S., Plano had the lowest unemployment rate for individuals with disabilities.
A recent WalletHub.com study of the 182 most populous cities in the country, Plano ranked #1 in the state and #19 in the nation for Best Cities for People with Disabilities.
The study looked at metrics related to safety, cost of living, access to medical care, quality of life and opportunities for employment.
“More than one in four U.S. adults live with a disability, so it’s extremely important for cities to prioritize becoming a safe, welcoming and affordable place for this demographic,” Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst said. “The best cities have highly-accessible public facilities and housing, high-quality medical care, and an affordable cost of living for people on a fixed income.”
Plano ranked first based on economic metrics like housing affordability, cost of living, median earnings for people with disabilities, employment rate for people with disabilities and annual cost of in-home services, landing the city a spot in the top 20 overall and the only city in the South to rank so highly. According to the study, Plano has the lowest percentage of people with disabilities living in poverty and the fifth-highest employment rate for individuals with disabilities.
