With back-to-back wins over ranked teams, Texas basketball (11-6, 2-2 SEC) has thrust itself into the middle of the SEC pack as well as any NCAA Tournament conversation. Now, the Longhorns hope to continue their momentum while gaining bragging rights over their fiercest rival in Texas A&M (13-4, 3-1).
Saturday’s game tips at 5 p.m. at Moody Center.
Both teams have first-year coaches, but Texas A&M’s Bucky McMillan and the Longhorns’ Sean Miller take different approaches to winning games. The Aggies compensate for their lack of size by jacking up — and making — bunches of 3-point shots from a deep group of guards that includes Pop Isaacs and Ruben Dominguez. They also like to press and trap with a disruptive defense that thrives on takeaways.
