LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office will host a memorial service this afternoon for K9 Arlo, who passed away on October 28, 2025, during a training session. K9 Arlo, the oldest working K9 in the department, was scheduled to retire in early 2026.

K9 Arlo’s medical examination revealed that he suffered cardiac arrest, likely due to a heart attack, according to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. Since joining the agency in December 2021, Arlo assisted in 125 arrests and was instrumental in seizing over 22 kilos of narcotics and more than $300,000 in illegal funds.

The memorial service, due to limited space, is restricted to surrounding agency K9 personnel, LSO employees, Texas Anti-Gang Center affiliates, and local media stations. The event will commence with an escort from the veterinary clinic at 1300, traveling down Main Street and passing the county courthouse before arriving at the LSO Academy at 801 Main Street. The LSO Honor Guard will be present to receive the escort.

Speakers at the service will include Judge Cutis Parrish, Lt. Chris Daniel, and Sheriff Kelly Rowe. Following the service, a memorial wreath will be placed in the public lobby of the Sheriff’s Office at 712 Broadway for public viewing until December 8. The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Resthaven Funeral Home and Lone Star Decorating for their assistance in planning the event and preparing the classroom space for the service.
