HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Two construction workers were hit by a driver Friday night while working on Crosby Freeway in Harris County.Â
Officials say one of the men was killed, and the other remains in critical condition.Â

What we know:
The workers were hit in the 3000 block of Crosby Freeway, near FM 2100, while working to strip pavement lane markings. One lane was shut down and another partially blocked while they worked.Â
The driver, later identified as a 21-year-old man, appeared to have swerved out of his lane, hitting the workers, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said. He is not believed to have been intoxicated at the time, officials say, and remained on scene to cooperate with law enforcement.Â

The men, aged 32 and 40, were flown to a nearby hospital. The younger man was later pronounced dead, and the older was in critical condition but stable at the time of publishing.Â
No charges have been filed against the driver.Â
