For the first time since 2002, the Texas A&M men’s basketball program walked out of the Moody Center with a 74-70 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night.

Led by Rylan Griffen and Rashaun Agee’s 17 points each, the Aggies secured a massive Quad 1 road win to improve to 14-4 (4-1 in SEC play) so far this season. In his first year at the helm, head coach Bucky McMillan has his squad playing on an elite level, which was displayed against another conference foe this weekend.

Texas A&M shot 51% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, while holding Texas to just 42% and 29%, respectively. Agee notched another double-double in the win, leading the charge for another display of improved shooting on both ends of the court from the Maroon and White.

The Aggies and Longhorns entered the half knotted up at 29 apiece, but McMillan got his team raring to go in the second half, leading an integral 45-point performance in the second half to charge back and exit with a victory over an in-state rival.

Entering the weekend, Texas A&M was considered in Joe Lunardi’s First-Four In, projected via his latest Bracketology for ESPN. With another Quad 1 road win against an SEC opponent, McMillan and company could see their predicted path to the postseason improve even further come Monday’s update. The Maroon and White sit atop the current league standings with the Florida Gators after the outstanding performance against the Longhorns.

There are still many challenges ahead, but there is no denying the job McMillan has done in his first few months at the helm in Bryan-College Station, Texas. When he arrived on campus, there was just one scholarship player on the roster. Now, he is leading one of the most explosive, high-powered, and fast-paced offenses in the country on one of the best regular-season runs in school history.

Texas A&M’s next obstacle comes on Wednesday, as the Aggies face Mississippi State at Reed Arena in College Station. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT against the Bulldogs and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
