H-E-B opened its first new store of the year on Jan. 7 in San Antonio, part of statewide expansion efforts as the company responds to rapid population growth in both established and emerging markets.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio-based company’s German rival is currently planning its own national expansion. Aldi announced this week that it is planning to open 180 new U.S. stores across 31 states in 2026. By the end of the year, the company will operate more than 2,800 stores nationally.

Here is a full list of new H-E-B stores coming to the Lone Star State in 2026, confirmed by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings. The list excludes stores that will be renovated this year.

Texas State students, rejoice — the third H-E-B in San Marcos is expected to open by late 2026. The 118,945-square-foot store will be located at McCarty Lane and I-35.

According to state filings, the $30 million project broke ground in September 2025 and will likely be completed in October 2026.

A $29 million new store, located at 15489 Culebra Road in San Antonio, opened Jan. 7, 2026. The ribbon cutting marked the first H-E-B store opening of the year. The supermarket is 126,196 square feet.

The grocer has broken ground on another massive store in the San Antonio area – this one in Converse, outside of Loop 1604 and East I-10. Construction began on Sept. 1 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30, 2026, according to state filings. The store is 125,434 square feet and cost $21.2 million.

In Montgomery, about 50 miles northwest of Houston and near Sam Houston National Forest, residents can expect a new H-E-B opening in August 2026, according to state filings. The $30 million supermarket will span 127,186 square feet at the southeast intersection of FM 2854 and Texas 105.

While Aldi continues its nationwide expansion plans, with the goal of operating 3,200 stores in the U.S. by 2028, Central Texas will be among the first to benefit. 

According to state filings, a new store in the Austin area is expected to open as soon as February 2026. The 23,606-square-foot store will be located at 850 N. Bell Blvd, Suite 104, in Cedar Park. Construction costs were estimated to be around $1.75 million.
