EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Ysleta Independent School District is addressing confusion regarding next year’s school calendar.
District officials at Wednesday’s school board meeting confirmed that students will have the day off after Easter, but not the day after the Super Bowl.
The school board approved Calendar B during last night’s meeting.
The approval comes after a motion proposed by Trustee Hernandez to amend the school calendar was rejected.
Hernandez suggested giving students, faculty, and staff the day off after the Super Bowl and Easter due to high absence rates on those days, which result in financial losses.
The proposal also included having teachers report to campus on July 22 instead of July 23, and adjusting elementary school hours to start five minutes earlier and end five minutes later.
However, the motion did not pass, leaving the district to approve Calendar B, giving students the day off after Easter.
While the district said the new calendar presented in the board packet during Wednesday’s meeting was a draft, the new calendar will be distributed when details are finalized.
