EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso Water lifted its boil water notice Thursday afternoon.

According to EPWater, people who live in Northeast and Central El Paso were affected by the water main break that left them with no water or low water pressure, and can now safely drink water or use it to cook and shower.

EPWater said that test results confirmed the water is safe.

“We want to thank several community partners who stepped up to provide water tankers and bottles of water during this emergency to keep the public safe,” said Vice President of Operations and Technical Services Gilbert Trejo. “We especially want to thank our customers for their patience. Protecting public health remains our priority.”

EPWater warned that the water might change in color, or it might have a taste or smell. However, they said it is not harmful, adding that it happens as sediments and minerals that settle in pipes get stirred up as water pressure changes.

EPWater recommends people run the cold water tap and flush out ice makers and faucet aerators, adding that if the water is not clean after doing this, they can call the water quality help line at 915-594-5733.

All six water distribution sites EPWater set up will stop giving water on Thursday at 10 p.m.
