SAN ANTONIO – Crews have successfully knocked down a major fire in a small family home on the East Side.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, crews rushed to the scene of a reported house fire near the corner of Tropical Drive and Kingston Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home had already been extensively damaged by flames.

But thanks to an aggressive initial attack, the crews were able to knock down the blaze in 20 minutes.

According to investigators on scene, a dispatcher reported a fire at an unoccupied home, with homeless people possibly involved.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which started at the back of the house, likely due to a transformer explosion caused by burning vines.

The transformer explosion affected only the neighboring house, causing a power outage.

The fire investigators suspect the initial fire might have been caused by a campfire used by homeless individuals to stay warm.
