SAN ANTONIO – A security guard who died after a physical confrontation with a trespasser has been identified.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the security guard has been identified as 57-year-old John Martin Thompson.

His cause and manner of death remain under investigation. The identity of the suspect has yet to be released by authorities.

Officers were called just after 5 a.m. to the 6800 block of Military Drive West for an assault in progress.

Police say that Thompson, who was working as a security guard, was struggling with a female suspect who had previously been trespassing at the location. He was struck multiple times during the struggle.

After police arrived and detained the woman, while officers were interviewing him, Thompson fell face down onto the pavement, police said.

Thompson was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have yet to release the identity of the suspect, and it is unclear what charges the suspect will face.
