Robstown Mayor Mary Ann Saenz said the community will come together to support the families during this devastating loss.
ROBSTOWN, Texas — The Robstown community is facing a devastating loss after two separate fatal crashes within days left six people dead.
Robstown Mayor Mary Ann Saenz said it is a difficult time for the community.
‘I want my community in mi pueblo to know that we are here, the city of Robstown. Myself-mayor, and the city council are here to support all the families and this need, to support my community and everyone that was involved in some small or great part in these tragedies that have recently occurred that we’re here to stand together, we’re here to provide love, compassion. We care about our community, we care about our citizens, and just to know that the city stands behind all my community during this time,” Saenz said.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Rob Mallory, troopers were notified of a two-vehicle crash at about 9:44 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of County Road 77 and County Road 36.
DPS said Corpus Christi resident Randy Rubio was traveling with his three children, ages 12, 5 and 4.
Rubio was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. All three children were critically injured. DPS said the 4-year-old child was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Mallory confirmed the 12-year-old child passed away Sunday morning.Â
In a separate incident, the Victoria Police Department said an 18-wheeler and multiple vehicles were involved in a crash Saturday afternoon on U.S. Highway 59 northbound at Hill Road.
Police said three people were killed and four others were injured in that crash, which remains under investigation.
Saenz confirmed that three of the people killed in the second crash were from Robstown.
“The parents, their father— they were all students. They were all community members. There was a teacher. There was a young man, driver, there was an engineer. So they have all touched our community in some way, small or large and so I want to honor them individual from the city in a small way that what else can we do except pray, come together as a community and pray for these people that have lost their lives and the families that continue to grieve over them,” Saenz said.Â
Saenz is planning a community vigil for the victims.
“I spoke to my staff this morning. And we wanna get together with the churches Saint Anthony’s and whatever other church and possibly provide a vigil here in front of City Hall sometime this week,” Saenz said.
At this time, no vigils or fundraisers have been announced. 3News will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
