SANTA TERESA, N.M. – (KFOX14/CBS4) — The 2025 Amigo Airshow was canceled late Friday due to the ongoing government shutdown, but local organizers quickly rallied to host an alternative event.

MountainStar Sports Group teamed up with the War Eagle Air Museum to provide a substitute gathering for those whose weekend plans were disrupted.

Vanessa Martinez, executive director of the War Eagle Museum, expressed her disappointment over the cancellation at Fort Bliss.

“We were obviously so saddened by what happened over at Fort Bliss. And so we figured we have an airport, we have a wonderful location, and we’re just happy to support in any way we can,” she said.

The original airshow was called off after Fort Bliss officials were informed by military authorities in Washington, D.C., that the event was not approved due to a lack of funding stemming from the government shutdown.

The new event, held today, featured many of the vendors, pilots, and volunteers who were set to participate in the airshow.

It was free for sponsors, volunteers, and those who had purchased tickets.

Attendees reported having a great time despite the last-minute change.

Bernice Segura, an attendee, commented, “But, I mean, for being this just the last minute thing and I mean, the outcome was pretty good. And now we’re really enjoying it. Really. It’s a great day out here.”

Irwin Martinez, another attendee, added, “Yeah, that was canceled. But it’s cool to be here in time and see everything right now.”
