AUSTIN, Texas – Events and parades are going on in and around the Austin area to honor and remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Timeline:
The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy and all businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals are invited to march and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.
The MLK Community March kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on the south steps of the State Capitol for a rally.
At the conclusion of the program, there will be a march to Huston-Tillotson University, Austin’s only HBCU, for the MLK Festival.Â
The festival will feature live performances, food vendors and plenty of activities for kids.
MLK celebrations in Leander and Cedar Park
The cities of Leander and Cedar Park are hosting a joint celebration with a march that begins at the Cedar Park Rec Center at 10 a.m. with a route of roughly a mile. It will conclude with a celebration at around 11 a.m.
San Antonio MLK celebrations
In San Antonio, one of the largest events in the country will kick off at around 10 a.m.
The celebration, sponsored by the City of San Antonio, begins at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy and ends at Pittman-Sullivan Park.
 This year’s event features exciting special guests. Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas will attend as the event’s keynote speaker, while Grammy Award winner Coco Jones will headline the post-event festivities at Pittman-Sullivan Park.
