It’s a sad week for San Antonio chisme lovers, as one brunch bar known for serving gulps with a side of gossip has officially lost its fizz.
According to a Friday update to Facebook, Mimosa Gossip at at 2907 N Loop 1604 E is permanently closing its doors after two years in operation. Here’s the eatery’s heartfelt goodbye message addressing the “haters,” as well as its final days of service.
Co-owned by Heather Whiting and Julia Smith, the Instagrammable eatery opened in November 2023 in the city’s Stone Oak area. Now, after two years and several struggles later, Mimosa Gossip is set to pop its last bottle at the tail end of January.
“It is with great sadness that we announce Mimosa Gossip will be closing its doors. We want to sincerely thank everyone who has helped make the past two years a success,” the brunch bar said.
The social media post then went on to address the “haters” with a heartfelt message about staying kind.
“Please remember that this business has always been built on passion, hard work and love for what we do,” the update said. “These are real people with real livelihoods, and kindness is always matters.”
Like many eateries nestled within San Antonio’s ever-shifting restaurant scene, Mimosa Gossip weathered through some difficult times. In October 2024, the Stone Oak-area business announced that it was temporarily cutting its hours amid slow business.
“Unfortunately we have been extremely slow, so temporarily we are cutting our hours,” Whiting and Smith wrote on the company Instagram page at the time, according to MySA.
In November last year, restaurant reps once again took to social media to announce hard times. Now, restaurant reps aren’t so sure about what the future holds — although they can confirm that, at least for now, “this is goodbye.”
Mimosa Gossip’s final day of service will fall on Jan. 29 this month, the post said: “We love you all and invite you to stop in and say goodbye to your favorite staff members, and enjoy a Mimosa or two. Drink specials until the end.”
