The Houston Dynamo are finalizing a deal to sign Poland international winger Mateusz Bogusz from Cruz Azul, sources briefed on the deal tell The Athletic. Houston will pay a $6 million fee plus an extra $4 million in add-ons, while Cruz Azul retains a 30% sell-on clause, sources add. CL Merlo first reported the deal was agreed upon.

Bogusz will fill Houston’s final designated player spot, behind fellow winter signing Guilherme and club-record signing Ezequiel Ponce. Bogusz, 24, starred for LAFC in MLS before joining Cruz Azul last winter for a fee worth up to $10 million. He had three goals and seven assists across all competitions over the last 12 months with Cruz Azul, where he wasn’t a regular starter.

Bogusz now heads to Houston, where he will be one of the club’s most important attacking players. Before Liga MX, Bogusz had 20 goals and 11 assists across all competitions in 2024 for LAFC.

Houston missed the playoffs in 2025 but has reloaded this winter, with Bogusz the biggest addition. Guilherme will be key, as well as veteran midfielders Agustín Bouzat and Héctor Herrera, plus center back Lucas Halter.

With the new signings and the potential for further moves, the club may have four or five new first-choice starters for manager Ben Olsen in 2026.
