The Lubbock Police Department recently released the details of an investigation involving a vehicle pursuit and two collisions—one of which involved a police officer.
Major Wreck at 34th and Quaker Following Police Pursuit
According to the release, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on what was believed to be a stolen vehicle at the 2400 block of Boston Avenue at 10:42 p.m. over the weekend on January 17.

The officer ordered the car to stop, but the driver of the stolen vehicle, 19-year-old Keonte Carr, ignored the command. Instead, Carr, along with 19-year-old Thomas Hambrick, sped away.
As Carr was traveling westbound along 34th Street in the vehicle, he crashed into an SUV driven by Emma Underwood, 26, who was driving south on Quaker Avenue.
Underwood was able to survive the collision, suffering minor injuries before being transported to University Medical Center.
Carr and Hambrick exited the damaged vehicle following the crash and fled on foot.
A Second Collision Delays Police Backup
Another collision occurred as a second responding officer was heading west along 34th Street crashed into a passenger vehicle heading north through the intersection of Indiana and 34th. This accident happened at 10:47 p.m.—just 5 minutes after the stolen vehicle was first reported.

Neither the officer nor the driver of the passenger vehicle were sent to receive medical services despite both of them suffering minor injuries.
It’s unclear if the second officer-involved collision was actively caused by the fleeing car thieves or if it happened independently while the responding officer was en route.
Following a short on-foot pursuit, both Carr and Hambrick were caught and arrested. After being medically cleared due to sustaining minor injuries, they each were transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

As the investigation continues, Keonte Carr was booked on evading in a vehicle, evading arrest detention, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal trespassing, and reckless driving.
Thomas Hambrick was booked on evading in vehicle, evading arrest detention, unauthorized use of a vehicle, drug possession, and felony warrant that was unrelated to the current investigation.
