Francesca’s, the Houston-based women’s boutique and shopping mall staple, is preparing to close all of its stores nationwide after more than 25 years.

Francesca’s has not put out a public statement or officially filed for bankruptcy yet, but news of the closure has been widely reported and clearance sales are already underway both in stores and online. There is currently no confirmed timeline for the company’s liquidation and closure.

“Gift Cards are all final sale and cannot be returned,” according to the company’s website.

The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Founded in Houston in 1999, Francesca’s built its brand around small, boutique-style stores offering trendy apparel, jewelry, home decor and gifts.

News of the closure comes after years of financial instability for the retailer. Francesca’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2020 amid pandemic-related disruptions and a decrease in mall traffic. In 2021, the company emerged with new ownership and plans to restructure debt, including the closure of nearly half of its brick-and-mortar stores.
