After six years in operation, Southtown dining fixture The Good Kind has officially closed its doors
Chef-owner Tim McDiarmid confirmed the closure to the Current on Monday, citing a “combination of reasons,” including burnout and family circumstances.
McDiarmid launched The Good Kind in 2017 at the Pearl before relocating to Southtown two years later. A year prior, she had launched Ivy Hall, an event space housed in the former home of The Monterey on South St. Mary’s Street.
The second iteration of The Good Kind began serving in 2019 on the same property and quickly earned a loyal following for its lush garden patio, health-conscious fare and steady lineup of community events.
Over the years, the restaurant and event space racked up numerous accolades and became a Southtown staple.
McDiarmid told the Current she has “no plans for opening another restaurant,” adding that she’s now focused full-time on her coaching and consulting venture, The Bravery Strategy.
McDiarmid first entered San Antonio’s culinary scene in 2011 with Tim the Girl Catering, known for its fresh, healthy, farm-to-table dishes with an emphasis on local ingredients.
Both Ivy Hall and Tim the Girl Catering remain open and in operation, although now under new management.
