ARLINGTON, Texas — The City of Arlington has activated its Homeless Emergency Weather Shelter Plan from 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, due to freezing temperatures. The Salvation Army will serve as a temporary inclement weather shelter for homeless individuals, according to a press release from the Office of Communication.

The shelter plan, supported by a federal emergency shelter grant, is activated when temperatures drop to 39 degrees or below for four or more consecutive hours overnight. The Salvation Army, located at 712 West Abram St., will intake individuals from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 19, with check-out at 8 a.m. on Jan. 20. Exceptions for check-in will be made for drop-offs by the Arlington Police Department after hours. The site can accommodate up to 30 individuals, and breakfast will be served.

If The Salvation Army reaches capacity, the First United Methodist Church at 407 N. Mesquite St. will serve as an overflow shelter, with the same intake and check-out times. This location can accommodate up to 20 individuals. Arlington Public Library locations will also be open for warming during standard operating hours, excluding holidays.

For homeless guests with pets, the Arlington Animal Services Shelter, located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd., will accept pets as capacity allows. For questions, individuals can contact The Salvation Army at 817-860-1836.
