A routine traffic stop in Dallas led to the seizure of nearly seven pounds of drugs, a handgun, and thousands of dollars in cash earlier this month, according to police.

Dallas Police Department officers stopped a vehicle around 11 p.m. on January 11 in the 4800 block of Haas Drive in East Oak Cliff for a defective license plate light and expired registration.

During the stop, officers reported detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, identified as Julian Lewis, 25, was detained. Police said officers observed a handgun concealed in Lewis’s waistband during a pat-down.

An inventory search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:

Approximately 3,165 grams of marijuana (nearly seven pounds)

Approximately 85.2 grams of cocaine

Lewis was arrested and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony; possession of marijuana between five and 50 pounds, a third-degree felony; and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.

“This enforcement action demonstrates the importance of proactive traffic stops and targeted patrols in identifying and removing illegal weapons and narcotics from our community,” the department said in a statement.

The case remains under investigation and is documented under case number 005452-2026, police said.
