The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes United is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Monday night in Lubbock. According to a press release, the shooting left one suspect injured.

According to the press release, Lubbock Police were called out the 2100 block of 18th Street on Monday, January 19. As one officer arrived on the scene, two people ran from the scene.

The officer caught up to the suspects in the 1900 block of 18th Street in a vacant lot. The male suspect continued to ignore and evade the officer and according to Lubbock Police Officials, the officer at one point reacted to what he believed was a threat to his own safety and fire multiple rounds at the suspect.

The officer caught up to one of the individuals, a male, in a vacant lot in the 1900 block of 18th Street. The male continued to evade the officer, while the officer gave him verbal commands to show his hands. During the encounter, the officer reacted to a threat to his safety. The officer fired multiple rounds at the subject. The male suffered serious injuries and was transported to UMC by EMS. A firearm, not the officer’s, was recovered from the scene.

Lubbock Police were also able to take into custody the second suspect, a female.

According to the press release, a news conference will happen on Tuesday where more details will be released.
