HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Tuesday morning was a traffic nightmare for I-45 North Freeway commuters as two separate crashes shut down the major roadway in both directions.

Houston TranStar cameras showed that only one lane was open after an 18-wheeler jackknifed in the northbound lanes on Quitman Street.

Officials said the truck was eventually turned around and moved, reopening lanes and allowing traffic to flow as usual.

The second crash happened just before 6;40 a.m. near Calvacade Street in the outbound and inbound lanes of the North Freeway.

It involved a truck and another car, and at least one person was taken to the hospital, officials said.

ABC13’s SkyEye was overhead earlier that morning, where heavy traffic was seen slowly moving through as crews worked to clear the area.

It is unclear what caused the crashes or the extent of the injured driver’s injuries.
