According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 3-month old baby from El Paso and a 10-year-old girl from Florida died after the 2003 GMC Envoy they were traveling in veered off the road, hit the cable barrier in the middle, and rolled over multiple times.
Texas DPS said it happened at around 3:25 p.m. near mile marker 101, which is close to the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol checkpoint.
The driver of the GMC SUV, a 29-year-old woman from El Paso and mother of the children, was reportedly seriously injured and was airlifted to the University Medical Center.
Authorities said the 3-month-old baby was pronounced dead on the scene, while the 10-year-old girl died from her injuries at the Culberson County Hospital.
Texas DPS said the crash remains under investigation.
According to a GoFundMe page, the mother was in the Intensive Care Unit and will require surgery.
