EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso City Council officially recognized El Paso-born artist Krystall Poppin on Tuesday for her significant contributions to music, film, and community leadership.
In a ceremony on Tuesday, the council declared Jan. 27 as the official “Krystall Poppin Day” to celebrate her achievements and impact in the borderland.
Krystall Poppin, whose real name is Krystal Garcia, is a Mexican-American rapper, actress, and creative entrepreneur from El Paso.
“Krystall Poppin has proudly represented the culture and spirit of the borderland with her music, community impact, and artistic achievements as she began her music journey in 2012,” the El Paso City Council said, proclaiming the day.
The proclamation from the city council comes after Garcia expanded her career in 2019 by opening for global artist Cardi B.
Garcia has also performed at several TNA Wrestling events and has featured El Paso in her music videos and acting projects.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Garcia shared her reaction to the proclamation, stating that she is “truly speechless.”
“Being able to represent El Paso as a Mexican-American woman from the 915 means EVERYTHING to me. I carry my city with pride in everything I do, and I hope this moment inspires the next generation of Mexican-American girls from the 915 to dream big, stand tall, and never let anyone put a limit on what they can become,” Garcia wrote on Instagram.
El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson also posted to social media to thank Garcia for her contributions to the borderland.
“Thank you for representing El Paso with heart, talent, and authenticity,” Johnson said in a Facebook post.
