EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Police identified the person who died after a crash in northeast El Paso last Friday.
The collision occurred at the intersection of McCombs Street and Sweetwater Drive.
The incident involved g a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and a 2009 BMW.
According to the El Paso Fire Department, the initial call was received at 9:25 p.m.
El Paso Fire transported one individual from the scene with serious injuries to a hospital.
The man who died was identified as 31-year-old Arnoldo Vargas.
Vargas was traveling south when he failed to stay in his lane, crossing the median and colliding head-on with the BMW.
Vargas was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, according to the Medical Examiner’s office.
Police noted that Vargas was not wearing a seatbelt, which contributed to the fatality.
The investigation is ongoing.
This marks the second traffic fatality in El Paso for 2026, compared to three at this time last year.
