ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women’s tennis team is set for its first dual match of the spring. The Mavericks host an in-state battle against the Houston Cougars at 2 p.m. Thursday at the UTA Tennis Center in Arlington.

This is the 10th ever meeting between Houston and UTA and the fifth since 2020. The Mavericks lead the all-time series 6-3 and won four straight matches against the Cougars until finally dropping the 2025 matchup in a 4-0 sweep.

The 2026 bout is just the second time UTA has hosted its Big 12 foe, the other home match coming in 2022.

Scouting Houston

While the match will be the first of the spring for UTA, the Cougars come into the road tilt already with three matches — all victories — under their belts. Houston opened its season with a trip to California, traveling to face UC Riverside, UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount. The Cougars swept all three matches, running their record to 3-0 in the early season. Two Houston players — Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli — are 3-0 in singles competition this spring.
