In an area like Dallas-Fort Worth, where dozens of high schools overflow with football talent, numerous athletes that would likely pick up top accolades in other regions of the country — or even of Texas — don’t make The Dallas Morning News All-Area team.
Yes, the football talent pool in North Texas is just that deep. But that doesn’t mean the stellar athletes who didn’t make the all-area team don’t deserve some shine, too.
Here’s a list of honorable mentions for offense:
QB Brett Holloway, Melissa
Senior, 6-0, 195
The transfer from Allen was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the Dallas area. He threw for 2,670 yards and 35 touchdowns, with only four interceptions, and he ran for 1,555 yards and 21 touchdowns for an 11-3 team that reached the Class 5A Division II state semifinals.
QB DeShawn Edwards, Mansfield Lake Ridge
Junior, 5-10, 165
Edwards had a breakout year, leading Lake Ridge to a 9-3 record and the second round of the 6A Division I playoffs after the school was 1-19 the previous two years. The District 3-6A offensive player of the year threw for 2,455 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for 1,390 yards and 21 touchdowns as Lake Ridge made the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Senior, 6-1, 200
The four-star Oklahoma signee was the District 7-4A Division I co-offensive MVP and threw for 2,911 yards and 32 touchdowns and ran for 474 yards and 11 scores for a 14-1 team that made it to the state semifinals.
QB Braeden Imhoff, Prosper
Senior, 5-11, 175
The Lamar pledge threw for 3,741 yards and 44 touchdowns for an 11-2 team that was one of the best in the Dallas area. He threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns in a win over four-time state champion Austin Westlake and threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns in a one-point loss to 6A Division I state semifinalist Allen in district play. He threw for 6,497 yards and 72 touchdowns in his career and broke school records for career and single-season touchdown passes and career yards.
QB Gavin Beard, Fort Worth All Saints
Senior, 5-10, 200
The Georgetown signee transferred to All Saints from Aledo and threw for 3,759 yards and 50 touchdowns as All Saints went 14-0 and won the TAPPS Division II state title.
QB Maguire Gasperson, Argyle
Senior, 5-11, 195
The UT-San Antonio signee was the District 3-5A Division II co-offensive MVP and threw for 3,223 yards and 35 touchdowns, with only three interceptions, while completing 70% of his passes. He also ran for nine touchdowns for a 12-2 Class 5A Division II regional finalist.
RB Kiante Ingram, North Crowley
Junior, 5-8, 190
The three-star junior ran for 1,626 yards and 22 touchdowns to lead North Crowley to a 12-2 record and spot in the 6A Division I Region I final.
WR Blake Gunter, Southlake Carroll
Junior, 6-2, 185
Gunter had 66 catches for 1,224 yards and 18 touchdowns and also ran for two scores for a 14-1 Class 6A Division II state semifinalist that was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation.
WR Caleb Smith, Allen
Senior, 5-9, 170
The Arizona signee was the District 6-6A multi-purpose player of the year and ranked second among area 6A players in receptions with 91. He had 1,006 receiving yards, 1,307 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns for a 14-1 team that was a 6A Division I state semifinalist.

WR Cannon Bozman, Highland Park
Senior, 6-1, 185
He had 55 receptions for 1,116 yards and 16 touchdowns and also had three kickoff returns for 152 yards and a touchdown for Highland Park’s 12-2 Class 5A Division I regional finalist team. Bozman had 124 receptions for 2,228 yards and 28 touchdowns over the last two years.
