BROWNWOOD, Texas — Howard Payne University’s School of Education and Fine Arts will host a special guest recital featuring Christopher Adkins, principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, on November 11.

The concert, which includes members of the HPU Department of Music, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Grace Chapel and is free to the public.

Adkins will collaborate with pianist Dr. Jacob Skiles and clarinetist Stephen Goacher. The program will feature works by composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, J.S. Bach, and Robert Schumann.

This event is supported by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Principal Chair Endowment Program and the Center for Rural and Small School Music Education.

Adkins, who studied at the University of North Texas and Yale University, has held prestigious positions with the New Haven Symphony and the Denver Symphony.

He returned to Dallas in 1987 to occupy the principal chair once held by his former teacher, Lev Aronson.

Adkins also serves on the faculty of Southern Methodist University and is an active performer in the region. He was nominated for a Grammy with the contemporary music group Voices of Change for the recording “Voces Americanas.”
