LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE FROM CITY OF LUBBOCK) – With winter temperatures forecasted to be at dangerous levels this weekend, the City of Lubbock is offering citizens a place to get out of the cold and warm up.
An emergency warming center can be opened and operated when the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts temperatures at 25 degrees or below, an inch or more of snow, temperatures below 32 degrees with an inch of driving rain, severe wind chills or extreme temperature fluctuations.
All library branches will serve as warming centers during their normal operating hours – starting Friday at noon – offering water, free Wi-Fi and charging stations for anyone needing to safely get out of the cold.
City asks all patrons to please be mindful and respectful of others and scheduled programming or events.
